Treatment Procedure
During treatment, tiny amounts of crystal clear gel are injected into the skin with a very fine needle. A local anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin prior to injection to minimize discomfort. A local anaesthetic injection is given for lip enhancement and for areas around the mouth. The gel gives natural volume and smoothes the facial lines and wrinkles instantly giving a younger fresher appearance.
The treatment session takes around 30 minutes and the results can last up to 9 months.

Do the injections hurt?
Only a mild temporary discomfort can be felt which is easily tolerated, as a very fine needle is used for the injections. A local anaesthetic cream is applied prior to treatment to keep discomfort to the minimum. For lip enhancement and nose to mouth lines, a local anaesthetic injection is often used. The new Restylane has local anaesthetic mixed with it, to give a gentler treatment experience.
The treatment is quick, typically taking about 20-30 minutes.
Do I need a skin test?
No skin test is required as Restylane does not contain any animal-derived ingredients.
How will I look after treatment?
You can see the great results with Restylane instantly. After treatment, you may have slight temporary swelling at the injection sites and may be mild bruising, which can be concealed with make up. This should settle down in a couple of days.
How long does the result last?
The excellent results of the treatment are long-lasting up to a year, depending on the area treated and the individual.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are rare. 1 in every 2000 patients has reported localized reactions thought to be of a hypersensitivity nature such as swelling, redness, tenderness and rarely acne type formations. These reactions have all been reported as mild to moderate and have disappeared within two weeks.
Who is qualified to administer Restylane treatments?
Medically qualified health professionals (plastic surgeons, doctors, dermatologists, nurses). Your practitioner should have undertaken a Q-Med recognised training course.
